When HEWT was founded in Karachi in 2012, its mission was straightforward yet ambitious to alleviate poverty by providing interest-free nonprofit lending to women who possessed the determination to succeed but lacked access to financial institutions.

The organization's earliest beneficiaries reflected a common reality found across underserved communities. They possessed valuable skills but lacked startup capital.

Some were tailors.

Some raised poultry.

Others operated home-based kitchens, kiosks, repair shops, beauty services, or small agricultural enterprises.

What united them was not their profession but their determination.

HEWT believed in these women before traditional financial systems ever would.

The model proved remarkably effective.

Beneficiaries established businesses, generated income, repaid their loans, and returned for additional financing to expand their enterprises.

Many progressed through multiple loan cycles.

What began as a modest income-generating activity often evolved into a thriving family business capable of supporting multiple generations.

Over the years, these individual stories accumulated into something far greater than isolated successes.

They became a movement.

Today, HEWT operates through 17 Chapters Across Pakistan, reaching communities in Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Thousands of families have benefited directly from HEWT's programs, including children, spouses, and extended family members have experienced the ripple effects of increased income, improved education, enhanced health, and greater economic stability.
